Rise Above

A STRONGER BODY. A CLEARER MIND. A HAPPIER LIFE.

When I hit rock bottom, the first step back was exactly that: one walk.

That walk became movement. Movement created momentum. And that momentum gave me enough room to begin rebuilding my mindset, my health and eventually my life.

Rise Above turns the tools that helped me climb out—and the science behind them—into a practical guide to strengthening your body, clearing your mind and building more happiness through mindset, movement and nutrition.

This is not simply the story of how I got back up. It is a toolbox to help you rise above too.

Read it in a weekend. Dip back in whenever you need the next useful step. Quick Wins included throughout.

Where the book began

WHEN ROCK BOTTOM BECAME SOLID GROUND.

I didn’t write Rise Above because I had life neatly worked out. I wrote it because, for a while, mine had completely fallen apart.

Months of emotional abuse, relentless stress and isolation had left me trapped in depression. Mentally, I felt broken. Physically, I was sluggish, unhealthy and barely recognised the person I had become.

Then one small moment of human connection reminded me that life could still feel different.

The next day, I went for a walk.

That walk became a daily ritual. Moving my body began to clear some of the noise in my head. From there came exercise, gratitude, reframing negative thoughts, self-compassion, connection and a collection of practical tools that helped me find my way back.

The personal story is where the book begins. The practical tools are why it exists. Rise Above takes what helped me climb out, examines the science behind it and turns it into something you can use to build greater strength, clarity, resilience and happiness in your own life.

The idea at the heart of Rise Above

“When your body starts to heal, your mind often follows.

Inside Rise Above

THREE PARTS. ONE WAY FORWARDS.

Your mindset, movement and nutrition do not live in separate compartments. Each affects how you think, feel, respond and cope. Rise Above brings all three together.

01
Part one

MASTER YOUR MIND. MASTER YOUR LIFE.

Build a healthier way of thinking without pretending that everything is wonderful or attempting to smile your problems into submission.

  • Train your brain to look for solutions, not just threats.
  • Use gratitude and calm to change how life feels day to day.
  • Challenge the inner critic and reclaim control of your story.
  • Build self-compassion, forgiveness and emotional resilience.
  • Strengthen connection and step out of the comparison cycle.
02
Part two

STRONGER. FITTER. HAPPIER.

Discover why movement is far more than a way to change how your body looks. It is one of the most powerful tools available for changing how your mind feels.

  • Understand the movement–mind connection.
  • Use walking to improve mood, clarity and wellbeing.
  • Build strength through practical resistance training.
  • Create a routine that develops confidence and momentum.
  • Stay consistent without obsession, punishment or burnout.
03
Part three

EAT WELL. KEEP YOUR SANITY.

Learn how nutrition supports energy, concentration, mood and mental health—without turning every meal into a moral judgement or an advanced mathematics exam.

  • Eat for physical health, mental clarity and steadier energy.
  • Understand the nutrients that help your brain function well.
  • Use protein, healthy fats, fibre and hydration intelligently.
  • Build balanced meals without banning everything enjoyable.
  • Make planning easier without becoming a full-time meal-prep influencer.

A clearer mind helps you act. A stronger body creates momentum. Good nutrition gives both the fuel to keep going.

Rise Above shows you what becomes possible when all three start working together.
A book built to be used

What this book is not

NO WELLNESS FOG. NO HEROIC REINVENTION.

Rise Above does not ask you to become a different species of human before any of its advice becomes useful.

Not this

THE USUAL SELF-HELP PERFORMANCE.

A personal story with no useful next step. Inspiring for ten minutes, then largely decorative.

Positive-thinking wallpaper. No pretending that difficult things disappear when you smile at them hard enough.

A fitness manual wearing a happiness hat. Exercise matters enormously—but it is only one part of the complete picture.

A diet book with added feelings. Nutrition is explored for energy, mood, clarity and health, not simply shrinking your body.

A complete personality transplant by Monday. No dramatic overhaul required before progress is allowed to count.

This

PRACTICAL HELP YOU CAN USE.

A real journey with a practical purpose. The story explains where the tools came from; the rest of the book helps you apply them.

Science translated into ordinary language. Understand why something helps without needing a second book to decipher the first one.

Mindset, movement and nutrition connected. A practical explanation of how they work together to support resilience, clarity and happiness.

Actions built into the chapters. Each idea leads somewhere useful rather than ending with a thoughtful nod and another cup of tea.

Humour without losing the serious point. Because useful advice does not become more credible merely by sounding like it was delivered by a disappointed headmaster.

The aim is not to create a different person by Monday.

It is to help you become stronger, clearer and happier by changing what you do next.

What readers keep noticing

IT MAKES BIG IDEAS FEEL USEFUL.

Readers are not simply praising the subjects covered. They are responding to how the book makes those subjects understandable, relatable and immediately applicable.

CLEAR, CONCISE. NO NONSENSE.

Straightforward explanations without unnecessary jargon, fog or a six-page detour before reaching the useful bit.

DIGESTIBLE AND EASY TO READ.

Short, focused chapters make the ideas accessible—and make it easy to return to the part you need later.

EVERYTHING JUST MAKES SENSE.

The science is translated into practical, recognisable situations rather than presented as a lecture.

COMMON-SENSE ADVICE. ACTUAL NEXT STEPS.

Readers come away knowing what they can do—not merely what they have just spent several minutes agreeing with.

Quick questions

BEFORE YOU BUY. HERE’S THE USEFUL BIT.

What the book covers, how it works and whether it belongs beside your bed—or somewhere more accessible, where you may occasionally remember it exists.

Is Rise Above a fitness or weight-loss book?

No. Exercise and nutrition are important parts of the book, but the central aim is broader: to help you build a healthier mind, a stronger body and a happier, more resilient life.

It explores how mindset, movement and nutrition affect mood, energy, confidence, clarity and your ability to cope when life becomes difficult.

Do I need to be fit already?

Not at all. The movement section begins with something as straightforward as walking and explains how to build from wherever you are now.

The book is about using movement to support your physical and mental health—not proving that you already belong in a gym.

Is it just Anthony’s personal story?

No. The personal story explains where the book came from and why its ideas matter, but it is only the beginning.

The rest of the book turns those experiences into practical, science-informed tools you can use in your own life.

Do I have to read it from beginning to end?

No. You can read the complete journey in order, but the book is also designed to be dipped into.

Open the chapter that matches what you need today—calm, confidence, gratitude, motivation, movement, energy, food, connection or a clearer way forwards—and take one practical step.

Is it a long or heavy read?

It deals with serious subjects, but it is deliberately written in short, accessible chapters with ordinary language and plenty of humour.

You can comfortably read it over a weekend, then keep it nearby as a practical reference rather than placing it ceremonially on a shelf beside several abandoned notebooks.

What makes it practical rather than just interesting?

The chapters repeatedly turn their main idea into something you can try, practise or change.

Each major part also ends with a Quick Wins cheat sheet that collects the most useful concepts and actions in one place, making them easy to revisit.

Is it only for women?

No. The book is for anyone who wants practical ways to improve their physical health, mental wellbeing, resilience and happiness.

No specialist background, matching activewear or ability to discuss protein yoghurt at length is required.

Is this the same as the Rise & Redefine app?

No. Rise Above is a standalone book with its own story, structure and practical toolkit.

It shares Anthony’s wider belief that physical and mental health are deeply connected, but it is not an app programme, workout plan or membership.
